Moses’ last message told the Israelites that God’s word was ”not just idle words for you–they are your life. By them you will live long in the land ”. (Deut 32:47) God’s word? The difference between life or death? A single two-sentence prophecy was, for one early church.
It was AD 66. Ha-Mered Ha-Gadol. The Great Revolt. It was a Sabbath, in fact, and Caesarea’s Jews were on their way to synagogue. Relationships between Jew and Greek in Caesarea had been long troubled, and on this Sabbath, the Greeks, itching for a fight, had sent one of their number ahead. Jews arriving for synagogue were greeted by birds being sacrificed at the entrance to the sanctuary on an upended earthenware pot that served as a makeshift altar. Heb.4:17 – Ephraim is joined to idols: let him alone.
The Spirit uses the name Ephraim, the second son of Joseph and one of the tribes in the Northern Kingdom, to refer to the ten tribes in the Northern Kingdom usually called Israel. The Lord says that these ten tribes are joined to their idols so let them have what they want. These tribes worshiped all kinds of idols and were enamored by their own strength. They even resorted to worshiping Baal. It was a deep time of spiritual apostasy.
But there are many prophetic looking glasses in Old Testament narratives such as this. God’s people were joined to idols, which can also be translated “married to idols”. Idolatry was rampant and when God’s people become married to idols it affects every single aspect of their spiritual walk. In fact, in many ways, it is such a sin that it causes a breach between the believer and His God. But God is relentless and He strongly convicts His people and commands them to repent...more…

Putin Pledges 400 ICBMs for Russia in 10 Years

Russia’s armed forces will receive over 400 modern intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs), more than 100 military spacecraft and over 2,300 new tanks within the next 10 years, Prime Minister and presidential candidate Vladimir Putin said.
Earlier media voiced fears that by 2020, Russia’ ICBM arsenal could reduce by more than half as over 400 missiles would go beyond their maximum service life without timely replacement.
“Within the next decade, the armed forces will receive more than 400 modern ground- and sea-based intercontinental ballistic missiles, eight ballistic missile submarines, about 20 general purpose attack submarines, over 50 surface ships and some 100 military-purpose spacecraft,” Putin wrote in a new article for the Rossiiskaya Gazeta government daily...more…
