Washington tightens financial vise imposed on Islamic Republic over nuclear program. New order effectively blacklists all Iranian financial institutions under US jurisdiction. 
US President Barack Obama ordered on Monday new sanctions against Iran, including its central bank, seeking to tighten the chokehold on Tehran’s economy as a nuclear showdown deepens.
Obama signed an executive order implementing parts of a new sanctions passed by Congress late last year. The measures block all property and interests of the Iranian government, the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) and all Iranian financial institutions that come within US jurisdiction.
Previously, US institutions were required to reject, rather than block, such Iranian transactions. The measures, passed with wide majorities in Congress last year, also included a requirement for Obama to impose sanctions on foreign financial institutions that do business with the CBI or other Iranian finance firms...more…

It is not the first time religion has been invoked for political gain, and it probably will not be the last. At this year’s annual National Prayer Breakfast Thursday, President Obama tried out a new election year pitch to bolster his argument in favor of taxing the rich: Jesus.
“If I’m willing to give something up, as someone who’s been extraordinarily blessed, give up some of the tax breaks that I enjoy, I think that actually makes economic sense. Leak Indicates Israeli Attack on Iran ‘Certain’

Last week in his Washington Post column, David Ignatius wrote that Israel was preparing to attack Iran to prevent it from being able to build a nuclear bomb.
According to his Post opinion page colleague Charles Krauthammer, based on the source behind Ignatius’ claim it is likely an attack will occur. On this weekend’s broadcast of “Inside Washington,” Krauthammer explained his thought process.
“I think it’s fairly certain the Israelis are going to attack or you would not have had this leak, deliberately coming this week from secretary of Defense through David Ignatius of The [Washington] Post saying that he thinks there is a high likelihood Israel is going to attack, and then he went ahead and specified when. He said three months, April, May or June. And you don’t say that unless there is obviously indications from the Israelis that they are going to do this even if they get and they are getting a signal from the United States not to do it.”..more…
Obama Vows to Work With Israel to Prevent Iran From Becoming Nuclear Power

U.S. President Barack Obama said on Sunday that the United States will work with Israel to prevent Iran from becoming a nuclear power, signalling that a diplomatic resolution to the current crisis is still possible.
In an interview with the NBC television from the White House, Obama said both the United States and Israel, which is “rightly” concerned about Iran’s nuclear program, believe that “Iran has to stand down” on the current standoff.
When asked if Israel is determined to attack Iran, Obama said he didn’t think that Israel has made such a decision, adding that the United States and Israel will work “in lockstep” on dealing with the Iranian nuclear issue. “I will say that we have closer military and intelligence consultation between our two countries than we’ve ever had,” he said...more…
Iran Air Force Ready to Counter Threats

Top Iranian military commander Brigadier General Abdolrahim Mousavi says Iran’s Army Air Force (IRAF) is fully prepared to counter any potential threats against the country.
“[Iran’s] Army Air Force is ready to identify any [kind of] aggression and counter them,” the deputy Chief of Staff of Iran’s Army said on Saturday.
The Iranian commander said during recent years the IRAF has identified and landed unknown aircrafts which entered Iran’s airspace.
On December 4, the Iranian military’s electronic warfare unit announced that Iran had downed with minimal damage the US RQ-170 Sentinel stealth reconnaissance aircraft, while it was in violation of the Iranian airspace...more…
