Highway to Hell

Have you noticed?  Faith today is all about the “Spiritual Journey”.  It’s everywhere.  Obama detailed his spiritual journey for Time magazine. The Dalai Lama  just  released his book: My Spiritual Journey.   But if everyone’s on their own spiritual journey, how do we know what lies at journey’s end?

So what’s with all this journeying all of a sudden?  Even the Southern Baptist Convention’s website has a page called “Your Spiritual Journey”.  Theirs, although it’s buried pretty deeply in a bunch of verbiage whose sole purpose is to preserve the “journey” motif, explains the Gospel.  So that’s good.

But other, ostensibly Christian voyageurs describe the “spiritual journey” differently. Brian McLaren’s “A New Kind of Christian” describes the spiritual journey as, “more about a way of life than a system of belief, where being authentically good is more important than being doctrinally “right,” and where one’s direction is more important than one’s present location.” ...more…

What We All Deserve

www.theignorantfishermen.com

The other day I was talking to Kipp Greggory, our morning talk show host, during whose program this radio blog broadcast airs. We do not see each other very often, but when we do, it’s a fast-paced gab fest! He brought up a point of aggravation to him that amazed me, because it is something that bothers my husband and me, as well, and I have not heard anyone else make the point. It is the profusion of advertising that appeals to the prevalent sense of entitlement that infects many people in our society today.

You have heard the ads on the radio. You have seen them on television. Whatever product is being pushed, the message is often phrased in the “you deserve” angle. “Get the credit you deserve.” “Get the home you deserve.” “Get the job you deserve.” “Get the body you deserve.” “Get the love life you deserve.” “Get the good night’s sleep you deserve.” The list goes on and on, and is enough to drive you crazy, if you are paying attention to such foolish messaging...more…

Jews Cannot and Will Not Remain Silent

The Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) issued a press release on February 13, imploring the Israeli government to stop police and Muslim Wakf discrimination against Jews on the Temple Mount.

The statement came in response to the recent incidents banning Jews from visiting the site following confrontation with Muslims regarding flyers that were discovered in the area in support of the Likud party and declaring that “healthy leadership begins with total control over the Temple Mount.”

In recent year, an increasing number of Jews have wanted to visit the Temple Mount, as many rabbinic authorities have been stating publicly that doing so is not prohibited by Jewish law...more…

The US Flex Muscles at Sea Border of Iran

ivarfjeld.wordpress.com

The US aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln has sailed through the Strait of Hormuz, close to the coast of Iran, for the second time in recent weeks.

A BBC reporter on board said an Iranian patrol boat at one point passed by two miles (3.2km) from the carrier. The carrier was accompanied by a US cruiser and destroyer. Iranian officials recently threatened to close the channel, through which 20 per cent of the world’s oil exports pass, in a row over oil trade embargoes.

The BBC’s Jonathan Beale on board the Abraham Lincoln says the US has insisted it will keep the busy shipping lane open. At its narrowest point, the Strait of Hormuz is only 21 nautical miles (40km) wide. Earlier, the US navy said the Iranian patrol boat passed within about half a mile of the carrier, but they later corrected this to two miles...more…

US Jews to ‘Back any Israeli Decision on Iran’

Malcolm Hoenlein tells Yedioth it’s Jewish leadership’s duty to make Washington, Europe aware of Tehran’s intentions’

An attack on Iran’s nuclear installations would increase the threat on Jewish institutions in the US and around the world, but we will back any decision Israel makes, said Malcolm Hoenlein, the executive vice president of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations.

Speaking to the Yedioth Ahronoth daily ahead of the organization’s annual conference, which begins Sunday, Hoenlein said it was the Jewish leadership’s duty to make certain that the US and Europe are aware that the “evil” regime in Tehran violates human rights and threatens global stability.

Meanwhile, a number of Jewish-American leaders have been meeting with European Union officials in Brussels, Yedioth Ahronoth reported...more…
